Narrow-row soybean and a cereal rye cover crop suppress glyphosate-resistant horseweed (<i>Conyza canadensis</i>)

چکیده

Abstract Alternative strategies are needed for management of glyphosate-resistant (GR) horseweed in soybean. Integrating a cereal rye cover crop with soybean planted narrow rows may improve control and reduce herbicide selection pressure herbicide-resistant biotypes. Four site-years experiments were conducted Michigan to determine whether fall-planted terminated glyphosate 1 wk prior (early termination) or after (planting green) planting combination narrow-row improved GR management. At postemergence (POST) application, biomass was reduced by 71% 90% when into rye, regardless termination time, compared no across all row widths. Planting green suppressed through harvest. When applied POST (noneffective), 36% 46% lower early cover. Similarly, 19- 38-cm 48% 28%, respectively, 76-cm rows. Cereal did not affect yield pooled over 3 4 site-years; however, yielded 11% 18% higher than Soybean an effective applied. In conclusion, fall-seeded rows; the effects last throughout growing season most cases. Delaying density harvest, but site-year due increased incidence white mold. These cultural practices have positive influence on suppressing that should be part overall strategy; use is still complete season-long

2016 Butternut Squash Cereal Rye Cover Crop Tillage and Fertility Trial

A cover crop management trial in butternut squash was planted at the Forgotten Harvest Ore Creek Farm (9153 Major Rd, Fenton, MI 438430) in a Miami loam soil with a 02% grade. The objectives were to determine how yields following a cereal rye cover crop were affected by three tillage systems and three at-plant fertilizer treatments in a split-plot Randomized Complete Block Design with four repl...

Shikimate accumulates in both glyphosate-sensitive and glyphosate-resistant horseweed (Conyza canadensis L. Cronq.).

Horseweed (Conyza canadensis) is a cosmopolitan weed that commonly grows throughout North America. Horseweed that is not completely controlled by normal applications of glyphosate has been reported in western Tennessee. This research had three objectives: (1) to develop and validate an analytical procedure for the quantitative determination of shikimate, an important indicator of glyphosate act...

Glyphosate inhibits rust diseases in glyphosate-resistant wheat and soybean.

Glyphosate is a broad-spectrum herbicide used for the control of weeds in glyphosate-resistant crops. Glyphosate inhibits 5-enolpyruvyl shikimate 3-phosphate synthase, a key enzyme in the synthesis of aromatic amino acids in plants, fungi, and bacteria. Studies with glyphosate-resistant wheat have shown that glyphosate provided both preventive and curative activities against Puccinia striiformi...

Micro-encapsulated acetochlor has been recently registered for preplant (PP)...

Physiological responses of glyphosate-resistant and glyphosate-sensitive soybean to aminomethylphosphonic acid, a metabolite of glyphosate.

Aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) is formed in glyphosate-treated glyphosate-resistant (GR) and glyphosate-sensitive (GS) soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] plants and is known to cause yellowing in soybean. Although, AMPA is less phytotoxic than glyphosate, its mode of action is different from that of glyphosate and is still unknown. Greenhouse studies were conducted at Stoneville, MS to determi...
